Tap! Tap! Tap! This meeting will now come to order. Is there any new business to be presented at this time? The Eureka FFA Parliamentary Procedure team placed third of six at the Section Five contest Thursday January, 26. Congratulations to Ellynne Vance, Payton Fehr, Alan Zimmerman, Allie Miller, Jodi Blunier, and Virginia Ely.

After many early morning practices and even some after school practices the team traveled to Metamora High School where they were the first team to preform. They were taken into a room where they had to take a written test then taken to another room to conduct a mock meeting. Panels of four judges were overseeing the meeting and asked each member a series of five questions. Everyone did a fantastic job and freshman, Alan Zimmerman even ended up in the top ten of the contest. Congratulations!

There was also a Job Interview competition following the Parliamentary Procedure contest that Ellynne Vance competed in. She had to apply to a fake job with an application she was asked to fill out. Then she had to call the judges from a different room and ask for an interview. Then she had to go to a room and have a mock interview with two judges. To finish off the competition she had to fill out a sheet of questions. Ellynne finished first of ten contestants, Congratulations Ellynne and Eureka Parli-Pro Team.!

Since the 1980-1981 school year, CEGEA (Congerville, Eureka, Goodfield Education Association) has raised funds for scholarships awarded to Eureka High School seniors. CEGEA believes that higher education is to be valued and rewards those educational efforts. The number of scholarships has varied with the amount of money available and the number of qualified applicants during the year. The first recipients were Carolyn Martin, Randy Knapp, Laurie McDonald Ward, and Todd Zimmerman. Early moneymaking efforts included down pillow cleaning, but in recent history, the chili supper – originally held at a football game – has been the main source of income.

Each applicant submits an essay stating why they are deserving of this scholarship and completes an interview with a panel of teachers.

His project consisted of leveling the surface of the hillside at the football field, laying landscape timbers in the hill, and securing the EUREKA letters to the timbers. Eureka Girls Basketball Team Wins Christmas Tournament

The girls’ basketball team, led by Coach Jerry Prina, won the St. Bede Tournament over the holiday break by coming back to defeat the host team in the championship game. Selected to the all-tournament team were Kalla Gold, Michaela Balducci, and Kayla Bryant.

EHS Student Council "Adopt a Child" Program

The Student Council also hosted an “Adopt a Child” this year- with the help of faculty and the EHS FFA we were able to provide Christmas gifts for 77 kids in foster care. These children (ranging from 3 months-20 years old) would not have had any gifts this Christmas without the generosity of many! It was so neat to see people coming in with their bags and boxes of gifts! The receiving participants were so thankful and it truly made their year. :-)

EHS Student Council Sponsored Blood Drive

The Eureka High School Student Council hosted our annual blood drive! This year there were 44 donors present at our blood drive and we had 41 successful units of blood. There were 21 first time donors this time which is great!! Everyone that volunteered to give blood was entered into a drawing for a $50.00 gas cardJ Jose Hidrogo was the lucky winner of this prize!! He was so excited!! All seniors who donated blood were entered to win a $250.00 scholarship and Elly Vance was our lucky winner! It was a very successful day overall and we are looking forward to the next EHS Blood Drive in the fall of 2012!

State salutes 19 Eureka High School students as ‘academic blue chippers’

Eureka IL – Eureka High School Principal Richard Wherley is pleased to announce that 19 students have been recognized as “2012 Illinois State Scholars”.

The prestigious award is given annually by the Illinois Student Assistance Commission (ISAC) which is recognizing 17,093 high school students from across the state as this year’s State Scholars.

Illinois State Scholar winners rank in the top ten percent of the state’s high school seniors from 897 high schools in all 102 counties. Selection is based on SAT, ACT and/or Prairie State Achievement Exam scores, and/or class rank at the end of the junior year. High school guidance counselors work in conjunction with ISAC to determine the winners. At least a half million Illinois State Scholars have been recognized in the past 48 years. While the recognition does not provide a monetary award, winners are encouraged to cite the award on applications for college admission and scholarships.

“Competition for college admission and financial aid is tough. Illinois State Scholar awardees have earned a real edge by hitting the books and getting good grades,” said ISAC Chairman Don McNeil. “These 19 Eureka High School students are shining examples that hard work pays off”.

McNeil urged high school students and their parents to visit ISAC’s website (www.collegezone.com) for more information about the many college financial assistance programs available. The innovative site also offers career counseling services, a planning timeline, virtual campus tours and online applications.

Created in 1957, ISAC is the state’s central provider of college aid. The agency oversees the successful Monetary Award Program (MAP), as well as the new MAP Plus program, Illinois Veteran Grant program, and service-related programs to encourage more students to pursue careers in teaching or nursing. Last year, ISAC issued 185,000 grants totaling $400 million and guaranteed $1.24 billion in loans to 232,631 students. Its 529 prepaid tuition program – College Illinois! – has allowed Illinois families to prepay more than $1 billion in tuition and fees.

Giving is the transfer of something without the expectation of receiving something in return. The Eureka FFA is teaming up with the Eureka Food Pantry to help families this holiday season. From collecting cans around town to bringing in pickup truck loads of food to the food pantry, the FFA is up and running again with the Tons of Fun Food Drive!

Congerville, Goodfield, and Davenport grade schools along with the middle school and high school are all in competition to see who can collect the most food. Every Friday the FFA officers and Ag classes collect, weigh, and record the pounds each class collects. It is then sorted and loaded in pickup trucks to take to the Eureka Food pantry. This past Friday alone the FFA took three full truck loads to the pantry. The Food pantry alone feeds over 100 families from the surrounding area. They have eleven surrounding churches that help donate, but every three months they get helpers together and go to the grocery stores and spend thousands of dollars just to help these families. In addition to the competition between the classes members of the FFA walked around town on Thursday, going door-to-door collecting even more donations! With what the FFA received Thursday and Friday there are only good things to come in the following weeks!

It is a blessing to have helping hands collect, sort, and deliver the food. The FFA would like to thank all who donated by either sending food with their kids, or by giving to those who surprisingly knocked on your door Thursday night! It’s a blessing to have such giving people at this time of year working together for the bigger cause.

Slick Moves Sell out the Competition

The 2011 Eureka High School FFA Ag Sales Team competed last Wednesday night, November 9th, at Black Hawk East College in Moline, IL. The team consisted of 5 FFA members including Ellen Wuethrich (Sr.), Payton Fehr (Sr.), Ellynne Vance (Sr.), Kent Hinrichsen (Soph.), and Alan Zimmerman (Fr.). The Ag Sales competition was composed of 5 different sale scenarios that ranged from presenting an item to the judges and convincing them it’s worth the buy, to calming a deranged customer on the phone by using their customer service skills. Plus the team had 1 project together in which they had to create and present a sales pitch with only 25 minutes to prepare the presentation. The team placed 4th overall with Ellynne Vance and Alan Zimmerman placing 3rd, and Ellen Wuethrich placing 2nd in their respective areas.

The Ag Sales competition is a life skills activity which teaches students about business and sales through agricultural means. The FFA is a positive influence in student’s lives by teaching them premier leadership and service through community service events, classroom guidance, and competition.

EHS Speech Team

The Eureka High School Speech and Drama Team opened its competitive season by capturing the 2nd place Small School Teams Sweepstake Trophy at the Tremont High School Individual Events tournament held on Saturday, November 6.

Making the big points for the team were Mark Crenshaw (son of David and Mary Anne Crenshaw of Eureka)—2nd place Radio, Mark Crenshaw & Erik Slingerland (son of Margo & William Slingerland of Goodfield)—4th place in Humorous Duet Acting, and Constance Moushon (daughter of Raymond & Catherine Moushon of Eureka)-4th place Radio Speaking. There were 14 schools participating in the tournament.

Jamie Wiegand (daughter of Wayne & Rosemary Wiegand of Secor) was tied for breaking into Poetry finals but lost on 1 speaker point and Colin Dewald and Corey Dewald (sons of Dennis & Amy Dewald of Eureka) were one place away from breaking into Duet finals.

Also new and competing with the team were freshmen Zach Harper (son of Kevin & Heather Harper of Eureka) in humorous interpretation and Nathan Sylvester (son of Brent & Maureen Sylvester of Eureka) in radio. Other team supporters included Amber Baer (daughter of Tim & Jenny Baer of Eureka), Brad Zehr (son of Stan & Julie Zehr of Eureka), and Ross Hettinger (son of Pete & Helen Hettinger of Eureka).

Agronomy is the name and judging crops is our game! The Eureka FFA agronomy team traveled to Metamora High School Monday November 14th. They were given seeds and insects to identify, and hay and weeds to classify. The team consisted of five members Samuel Cottrell, Jodi Blunier, Allie Miller, Harrison Frank, and Nathan Steffen. The team placed fourth overall and took on some hard competition. They did a fantastic job, congratulations!

Class of 2012 excels on the PSAE

The class of 2012 scored well enough on last years PSAE to place Eureka High School in the top fifty high schools in the state based on the number of students meeting or exceeding the state standards. They rank in the 93rd percentile in the state. Most of the high schools in the top 50 are north of I80. Also, this is one of the highest PSAE scores ever recorded by a class at EHS. We are very proud of the class of 2012's accomplishment and commend the entire K-12 teaching staff for preparing our students for success on the state exams. We honored this accomplishment by grilling rib eyes, pork chops, and brats and also providing the rest of the lunch for the senior class and the staff at EHS on November 10, 2011. Thanks to Jason Bachman, Dave Tapp, Adam Zehr, Karie Reike, Bill Carr, Deb Klaus, Margie Anderson, Joe McLaughlin, and Vicki Cook for helping to make this happen.

This is a very prestigious award as he joins the elite company of Nathaniel Meiss, Jordan Prosser and Caty Eeten (basketball), Ryan Eigsti (baseball) and Dustin Franckey, Sean Houseworth, Johnny Reel and Olivia Klaus (Cross Country/Track) as the only athletes from Eureka High School to have won this award in their respective sport. National FFA Convention 2011

National Convention 2011

Lining every street with blue corduroy jackets, kids from states ranging from Alaska to Puerto Rico, Maine to Hawaii and even Indian nations came together to experience the 2011 National FFA Convention. The Eureka FFA Officers: Elly Vance, Samuel Cottrell, Seth Schumacher, Josh Robinson, Brad Krumholz, Jacob Leman, Jodi Blunier, Rebecca Kupferschmid, Virginia Ely, and Payton Fehr were just a few of those blue jackets on the streets. They got involved in different types of sessions revolving around this years theme of “I believe”, they visited the numerous amounts of colleges with booths available, they browsed the many “stores” set up, and enjoyed fun activities that were offered to them.

The officers loaded a school bus Tuesday morning October 18th and ventured out on a trip of a lifetime. They arrived in Indianapolis, Indiana and visited a museum of western and Indian art and history. They observed many famous paintings and sculptures in the museum as well as visited the interactive part of the museum where they could try different instruments and role play different parts of western history. Although the weather was just short of awful they pushed that aside and enjoyed their time. To start off their Wednesday morning they visited the NCAA museum where they mingled with many other members from different FFA chapters from across the nation. After that they made their way to the convention center and ventured through the shoulder to shoulder crowd and visited college booths and, of course, accumulated all of the “free-bees” that were being handed out! Connected to the room full of college booths and other advertising booths was a room full of mini stores where FFA members mingled and purchased some “groovy- souvies”. That night the opening session was held at the Conseco Field house, home of the Pacers, and the key note speaker, Dave Roever, gave a very motivational speech. He brought out some of his friends that made a huge impact in his life, introduced them to us and they shared their stories. Thursday night there was a rodeo that all the members were welcome to attend followed by a concert featuring Blake Shelton, Little Big Town, and Steel Magnolia. The stadium was packed with everyone singing and dancing, it was a great experience!

Out of 543,000 FFA members over 58,000 members were participating in sessions, local museums, and fun activities. Everywhere you looked there was a blue corduroy jacket in sight. Our FFA Officers work hard every year to get a chance to travel to National Convention and can not thank the community enough for all of their support. They are looking forward to their new officer team next year to share this experience because we believe, we are FFA!

Cross Country teams advance to Sectionals

Both the boys and girls cross country teams are advancing to Sectionals this Saturday. Kalla Gold got 5th overall and both teams earned a 5th place finish to advance to the Elmwood Sectional. The girls race is at 10:30 and the boys is at 11:15.

EHS student helps raise money for the Children's Hospital

Thursday, September 8th the Eureka FFA hosted their 16th annual Labor Auction at the Livestock Center in Congerville, IL. Dinner was delicious pulled pork sandwiches with the meat donated by Chad Leman! The auction started at 7p.m. with Lowell Stoller, Andy Knobloch, and Jim Stoller serving as the auctioneers for the event. Lowell told the officers how nervous he was, he ended up doing a wonderful job! As for the crowd the stands were filled, as FFA members waited to be auctioned off. It was a wonderful turnout! Donators from the community were so generous we were able to hold a silent auction. The Eureka FFA would like to thank everyone who purchased a member, or anyone who came out to support the FFA, we really appreciate it, and are looking forward to teaching our members leadership, dedication, and much more this year.

Solvi Bakke, Foreign Exchange Student From Norway

Solvi Bakke, a foreign exchange student from Norway, recently taught students at EHS about her home country. Her presentation included information about the weather, economy, food, sports, fashion, cities, and other major news events including the tragic bombing and shooting that took place on July 22, 2011. Miss Bakke was even courageous enough to speak about her personal experience living through the bombing. Students took part in a discussion asking questions and found many comparisons between Norway and the U.S.

Custodians get started on summer work

All of the custodians and student workers began the summer with Asbestos training provided by district maintenance director Paul Plopper. This summer will begin with the replacement of the old lockers in the 1927 section of Eureka High School. Other projects include general cleaning and waxing, repairing the asphalt and concrete around the campus, and re-coating the gym floor.

Project Impact celebrates the end of the year

The students enrolled in Project Impact ended the year with a field trip to the paintball course in Mackinaw. All of the students that attended this event have completed their required courses and logged the number of hours needed to recovery the credits they need towards graduation. Congratulations to all of the students, Mr. Aldridge, and Mr. Whitaker for a successful year!

Livestock, Dairy, and Horticulture State Judging Competition

The Eureka FFA's Livestock, Dairy, and Horticulture Teams recently competed at the state level competition. The Livestock Team placed 4th in the state, out of 107 teams; the Dairy Team placed 4th in the state, out of 78 teams; the Horticulture Team placed 22nd out of 32 teams. This year's competition was held at the University of Illinois, in Champaign, IL. Daniel Leman held the leading core of 511 for the Livestock Judging Team, Rebecca Kupferschmid held the leading score of 409 for the Dairy Judging Team, and Samuel Cottrell held the leading score of 430 for the Horticulture Team. This year's team members did a fantastic job practicing and preparing for the competition months in advance. Congratulations to this year's Eureka FFA Livestock, Dairy, and Horticulture Judging Teams for their performances at the state level!

3rd Annual Career Week at EHS

The 3rd annual Career Week was April 11th-15th! Twenty-two professionals came to EHS throughout the week to speak to our students. An Emmy Award-Winning Animator, a Forensic Police Officer, a NFL Scout, an Early Childhood Educator, a Dog Trainer…just to name a few! This was a great week for the students and community alike to work together in finding the perfect jobs for tomorrow's leaders.

EHS WYSE team places in top 20 at state

The EHS WYSE team placed in the top twenty yesterday at the state competition. If they would count all of the scores recorded, we would have been 11th and in the top five of the public schools. Congratulations to Thompson Zhuang, who was a medalist in the area of Chemistry.

This year’s FFA Lock-In was a blast! The night started off with a team building activity in which the members present were split into groups, and each group duct taped one of the 5 girl officers to the wall. Laughter and smiles filled the room as the game started; the results were humorous to say the least. This event was the prelude to a night filled with never ending games of dodge ball and basketball, plus a bouncy and lot of scrumptious food! 75 Eureka FFA members of all ages came and enjoyed a time of fun, food, and lots of friends!

On March 26, 2011, the Peoria Area World Affairs Council (PAWAC) will be hosting their annual conference at the Par-A-Dice Hotel, in East Peoria. This year the conference is exploring the challenges and possibilities in Latin America. The following students were awarded scholarships to attend the conference from the Eureka Rotary and PAWAC: Brad Brewer, Christopher Crawford, David Crowe, Emily Cuffe, Jehanne Eveno, Erica Garber, José Hidrogo, and Chase Scherer. Thompson Zhuang was chosen for the PAWAC National Scholastic Bowl team and will travel with the team to Washington D.C. This is the first time an EHS student scored so high; this high score was why he was chosen to participate on the national team. EHS Social Science/Studies teacher, Deborah Bertschi, will be accompanying the students to the conference.

Of the poems submitted, Nicole Connolly of Eureka, who is pictured with Ronda Cross - Regional Supt of Schools, was selected to represent the MPW Regional Office of Education in the Area II contest. She will be competing against 8 other high school students from northwest region of the state. Congratulations to Nicole and Ms Blunier!!!

Eureka High School Student Council brought home many awards today from the Hopewell District Student Council Convention! First of all, Michelle Leman received a scholarship for college because of her leadership abilities. Ellen Wuethrich was awarded an Honor Council Award for her excellent work on the Student Council scrapbook! Ashley Schrock received the Zach Swingle award which is honoring a freshman or sophomore student that exemplifies integrity, positive and energetic leadership, devotion to family and friends, and academic achievement. For the first time since Mrs. Brown has been the advisor, there are two students being on the executive board- Quint Noe is 2011-2012 1^st Vice President and Kyle Hinrichsen is the 2011-2012 2^nd Vice PresidentJ The final recipient of an award was Stephanie Brown and she received the Advisor of the YearJ This year’s Student Council has been Taking Advantage of Tuesdays- each week Mrs. Brown gives the students a task for the week from donating old books and agreeing to not eat junk food to giving free hugs and writing letters to people in the military. This year has been an amazing year for Student Council- Our biggest event is yet to come….HOPE WEEK 2011 is April 4^th-8^th…please be on the lookout for events to come!

FFA Section 5 Meats Judging Contest

The Eureka FFA hosted the Section 5 Meats judging contest at Bitner’s Locker in Eureka on Thursday night, the 24^th of February. The team consisted of Brad Krumholz (Jr.), Virginia Ely (Jr.), Josh Robinson (Soph.), Matt Grimm (Soph.), Evan Knapp (Soph.), Brett Boertline (Fresh.), Nathan Steffen (Fresh.), and Cody Jones (Fresh.). There were 5 teams total at the competition, and the Eureka team took 2^nd with Brad Krumholz, Nathan Steffen, Cody Jones, and Virginia Ely in the top 10 scoring individuals section. A huge congratulation goes out to the team on their accomplishment at section, and good luck to them also for their upcoming district contest!

FFA Week at EHS

It’s National FFA Week! To help celebrate and kick things off, the Eureka High School FFA sponsored the Ag Olympics in the EHS gym on Tues. afternoon. The Ag Olympics consisted of an obstacle course filled with challenges such as a hay bail stacking competition, an egg toss, and a cow pie eating contest! The competitors were other student clubs at EHS. Student counsel won the competition by finishing the course with a time of 1:58, followed by the FFA with a close time of 2:04, and Operation Teen Safe Driving came in third with a time of 2:52. The competition was an awesome time for the clubs and students of EHS to come together and celebrate FFA Week. It was a great start to a week full of FFA spirit!

On President’s Day the Eureka High School FFA took a charter bus up to Devil’s Head Wisconsin Ski Resort, for a day full of fun, friends, and snow! The trip was a great time of getting to know other members and enjoying the slopes. Add some hot chocolate to the mix and the trip was a success!

FFA Members Compete in Record Book Competition

This past Thursday, 19 Eureka High School FFA members took their Record Books to Princeville, IL, to have them judged at the section contest. FFA members that competed were as follows: Drew Bauman (Jr.), Matt Grimm (Soph.), Katherine Syndram (Jr.), Evan Zimmerman (Sr.), Brad Krumholz (Jr.), Samuel Cottrel (Jr.), Abbey Knapp (Soph.), Amber Leininger (Soph.), Ellynne Vance (Jr.), Dylan Woolen (Soph.), Tyler Bell (Soph.), Josh Robinson (Soph.), Rebecca Kuperschmid (Soph.), Jeremy Daugherty (Sr.), Gavin Arvin (Sr.), Seth Schumacher (Jr.), Jodi Blunier (Soph.), and Dan Leman (Sr.).

The National FFA Organization is made up of three critical areas: FFA, Lab/Classroom work, and Supervised Agricultural Experiences (this would include Record Books). Record books are a way for a high school FFA student to keep track of their financial standings during their high school career. There are two different types of Record Books, Entrepreneurship, in which the student starts their own business (i.e. A mowing company or a beef production operation), or placement, in which the student works for a specific company.

At the section contest students are individually interviewed by a panel of judges about their Record Book, and what it entailed. Dylan Woolen, Josh Robinson, Rebecca Kuperschmid, Dan Leman, Drew Bauman, Katherine Syndram, and Samuel Cottrel won their proficiency area and will be competing at the district competition on March 16th, in Geneseo, IL.

Local Eureka FFA Chapter Attends 212 Conference

Members of the Eureka High School FFA Chapter attended the National FFA Organization’s 212 conference at the Chicago Marriot in Schaumburg, Illinois on January 28-29, 2011. Members in attendance, pictured from left to right (below), are State FFA President John Edgar, Brook Leininger, Kyle Zimmerman, Austin Blunier, Sarah Kupferschmid, Landon Dietrich, and Logan Dietrich of Eureka.

The two-day personal development program helped students determine personal virtues and values, while creating personal action plans for achieving their goals. The conference also focused on good decision making and accountability.
Illinois held two 212 conferences with 341 FFA members attending the conference in Schaumburg and another 256 attending the conference held in Collinsville. The conference was open to freshman and sophomore FFA members.

212 conference program staff members are college students who are former state or national FFA officers. FFA is a national organization, of over 523,000 members, developing each student’s potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education. Local, state, and national activities and award programs provide opportunities for students to apply knowledge and skills acquired through agricultural education.

Congratulations to Evan Stalter (12), Dustin Smith (12), and Kelsey Henry (11) who participated in the annual IMEA All-State Conference. After rigorous preparation and auditions, the three were selected to attend the three day festival in Peoria from Thursday-Saturday January 27-29. Evan represented EHS in the All-State band playing euphonium. Dustin sang Tenor 2 in the All-State Chorus and Kelsey had the opportunity to be an Alto 2 in the Honors Chorus. In addition to singing and playing under the direction of extremely talented and well-known directors, composers, and arrangers, the three EHS students each participated in the All-State Conference Concerts on Saturday in the Peoria Civic Center Arena. Band director Todd Stalter and choir director Kate O'Donnell were able to attend many helpful workshops and clinics while in Peoria, and are very proud of their students' accomplishments!

Scholastic Bowl places third in the CBB Tournament

Congratulations to Scholastic Bowl for winning Third Place in the Cornbelt Tournament Saturday! Eureka beat Olympia, Pontiac, and Central Catholic, falling to 1st place U-High and to 2nd place Mahomet-Seymour. Top individual team honors went to Evan Stalter, with Caleb Sylvester in 2nd and Belle Moushon in 3rd. The team is 9-6 for the season.

Denver 2011 –Eureka FFA Livestock Judging Team Competes at National Western Stock Show and Rodeo

The Eureka FFA livestock judging team competed at the National Western Livestock Show and Rodeo on January 8^th in Denver Colorado. The team was selected by the Illinois State FFA Association to represent Illinois in the competition based on its Runner-up Performance at last spring’s State FFA Contest held at the University of Illinois. The team spent the last 3 months practicing for this prestigious event. The National Western show is one of the longest running livestock shows in the country. It is often referred to as the super bowl of the livestock industry. The team competed against other state championship caliber teams from all over the country. On Saturday, the team evaluated some of the highest quality livestock many of them have ever seen. The morning consisted of evaluating 10 different classes made up of cattle, hogs, sheep and goats. In the afternoon, the team gave 6 sets oral reasons on the classes they evaluated in the morning. The team consisting of Dan Leman (Sr), Gavin Arvin ( Sr), Brad Krumholz (Jr.) , Katie Krumholz (Fr) and Josh Robinson ( So) placed 11^th overall. The team was 2^nd overall in the Swine Division, 9^th overall in the Sheep division, 4^th overall in the Goats Division and 6^th overall in the Reasons Division. Individually, Katie Krumholz placed 8^th overall in sheep, Dan Leman placed 9^th overall in Swine, and Brad Krumholz placed 8^th overall in Goats. The trip offered a great learning experience to all the team members by allowing them to evaluate such outstanding livestock. Other team members making the trip were, Allie Miller and Andrea Hunt. The team could not have had this opportunity without the support of the schools administration, school board, and community sponsors. The trip was funded by these great sponsors: Gold Level- Reel Livestock Center-Dickenson Angus, Silver Level-Carroll Oil-Chad Leman- Sam Leman Eureka-Blackmer Farms- Windmill Creek Ranch-Yoder Oil –EHS Solutions -, Bronze Sponsor-McKenna Vet Services-Martin Equipment-Kelsey Farms. The Eureka FFA Agronomy CDE team competed at the state level on Saturday at The University of Illinois. Larae Zimmerman, Jodi Blunier, Nathan Steffen, and Lana Wettstein spent the day identifying live crops and weeds. They also took a test and completed a soil practicum. The team is currently waiting on results as to how they did.

‘Tis the Season to be Jolly!

In order to spread some hope and Christmas cheer this holiday season the FFA hosted their Christmas party this past Thursday night, the 9th of Dec.
The 60 members present kicked off the night by collecting cans door-to-door to help benefit the FFA Tons of Fun Canned Food Drive. After collecting the cans the FFA members returned to the High School to weigh and sort them. The members collected a total of about 670 lbs.
The members then proceeded on to a night filled with fun, food, and friends! The FFA officer team updated the members on what is currently going on in their chapter and encouraged members to get involved. To wrap up the evening everyone assembled in the high school auditorium to watch a festive movie.
In honor and thanks to the armed forces that are serving overseas during the holiday, the Eureka FFA in conjunction with the Illinois FFA are making and shipping care packages to the troops. The FFA collected more than enough items to fill the 19 boxes they had, plus a few extra!
The night was packed full with lots of laughter and Christmas cheer. From collecting cans to eating cookies the Eureka FFA members enjoyed lots of fun and fellowship this Christmas season.

Marching Band receives another honor

EHS marching band was named Division III band of the year according to the official website for all things "marching band" in Illinois. See details in the link below. This is the third year in a row that they have received this honor.

FFA Agronomy Team

The FFA Agronomy Team traveled to Metamora on Monday, December 15th, to compete in the section event. They identified weeds and crops and also observed land plots and what soils were on them. Overall the event was successfull and a fun time. The team placed 4th overall. The Eureka participants were Lana Wettstein, Jodi Blunier, Harrison Frank, Ally Miller, Nate Steffen, Larae Zimmerman, Madelyn Torri and Sara Molzof. The Advisor was Andrew Blackmer.

Scholastic Bowl

A big congratulations to the Fresh-Soph Scholastic Bowl team on winning their first tournament of the year at Midwest Central Saturday! The team beat IVC, Porta, Midwest Central, and Peoria Heights, only falling to Peoria Christian. Top individual honors went to Anna Boggs with 9 tossups and Ross Hettinger with 4. Also medaling were Erick Slingerland, Rebekah Coons, Jonah Martz, Dylan Knapp, and Steven Slingerland. The JV team of juniors was 3-2 for the day, also beating IVC, Midwest Central, and Peoria Heights. Thompson Zhuang won top honors with 9 tossups, with Belle Moushon second with 5.

Day of Service at Maple Lawn

This past Saturday the Eureka FFA held their annual day of service at Maple Lawn Homes in Eureka. During this time FFA members replaced a Retaining Wall and built a Pergola at the Noah’s Ark Children’s Center. With the many hands that came to help out, work was light and their goals were accomplished in only about 5 hours! Everyone had a great time working together to benefit their community!

EHS Marching Band wins state competition

Congratulations to the EHS Marching Band for winning Class 1A at the State of Illinois Invitational High School Marching Band Championships at ISU. The band also won caption awards for High Achievement in Music Performance, High Achievement in Effect, High Achievement in Visual Performance, and the Crowd Pleaser trophy. In the evening Finals competition, the band finished 13th, becoming the first 1A band in the history of ISU Finals to outscore a band from a higher class. This accomplishment caps off a great season that saw the band winning Class 2A at the University of Illinois Illini Marching Championships, as well as taking Grand Champion honors at the Pontiac Indian Showdown. The band is led on the field by Drum Majors Katy Boggs, Kelsey Henry, and Mackenzie Fuller.
