Freshmen Narrative Night at EHS
“On Thursday, April 25th, parents and siblings of Mrs. Roorda’s English 1 students joined them in her room for ‘Freshmen Narrative Night’. It was a fun hour to eat delicious refreshments and share narrative essays written by writers in Mrs. Roorda’s 3rd and 5th hour classes. Thank you to all who attended and who either read their work, listened to it being read, or allowed theirs to be read by those who came. What a great evening!”

Sophomore English Students Hear Holocaust Survivor Speak
On Tuesday, April 9th, sophomore English 2 students in Ms. Lowe, Mrs. Roorda, and Mr. Streit's classes traveled to Charter Oak Primary School in Peoria to hear Holocaust survivor Marion Blumenthal Lazan speak. A group of roughly 400 students and faculty from surrounding schools was in attendance to listen to Lazan speak about her experiences as a Jew during the Holocaust and after the war. Eureka students read Lazan's book, "Four Perfect Pebbles" in March, so it was especially fitting to hear her speak in person after reading her story. Lazan's inspirational message of determination and hope truly impacted all who attended. Marion herself gave the challenge to her listeners to seek peace and tolerance in every relationship, so that the tragic events of history are never repeated.
