“A Healthy Me is Drug Free.” Red Ribbon Week 2013 used this quote to reach out to people of all ages to stay drug free. Davenport Elementary School participated in Red Ribbon Week in more ways than one. During every child’s PE classes, Mr. Dohner, their PE teacher, had the students go on a walk. The older students were able to go on a hike at Eureka Lake while the kindergarten classes walked and ran around the high school track. It’s important for the kids to learn about substance abuse at an early age, so they walk not only to support Red Ribbon Week but also to appreciate living drug free.
EHS Key Club, sponsored by Mrs. Terri Kuebler, also promoted substance abuse awareness by implementing dress-up days for students wearing their red ribbons in support of remaining drug free. Students wore hats, silly socks, pajamas, team jerseys and orange from Wednesday, October 23 to Wednesday, October 30. Mrs. Janelle Brace’s 3rd hour class won the dress up challenge with over 58% of her students participating in the five days.
