Mrs. Susin and Mrs. Barnett retire
All of us at EHS would like to thank Mrs. Susin and Mrs. Barnett for their many years of service to our school district. They both were extremely dedicated employees and always took the time to make students their first priority
Custodians get started on summer work
All of the custodians and student workers began the summer with Asbestos training provided by district maintenance director Paul Plopper. This summer will begin with the replacement of the old lockers in the 1927 section of Eureka High School. Other projects include general cleaning and waxing, repairing the asphalt and concrete around the campus, and re-coating the gym floor.
EHS graduation held May 22, 2011
Congratulations to the graduates of the class of 2011from Eureka High School. The class was recognized as being on of the best academic classes to ever graduate from Eureka High School based on their ACT scores. EHS Hornets at O'Brien Field
The Hornet's did a great job last night, Monday, May 9, representing EHS and the Hornet Baseball program. They beat Peoria Christian HS by the score of 12-2. Here is a photo just before their big night under the lights at O'Brien Field. Congratulations, Hornets!!!
Project Impact celebrates the end of the year
The students enrolled in Project Impact ended the year with a field trip to the paintball course in Mackinaw. All of the students that attended this event have completed their required courses and logged the number of hours needed to recovery the credits they need towards graduation. Congratulations to all of the students, Mr. Aldridge, and Mr. Whitaker for a successful year!

Livestock, Dairy, and Horticulture State Judging Competition
The Eureka FFA's Livestock, Dairy, and Horticulture Teams recently competed at the state level competition. The Livestock Team placed 4th in the state, out of 107 teams; the Dairy Team placed 4th in the state, out of 78 teams; the Horticulture Team placed 22nd out of 32 teams. This year's competition was held at the University of Illinois, in Champaign, IL. Daniel Leman held the leading core of 511 for the Livestock Judging Team, Rebecca Kupferschmid held the leading score of 409 for the Dairy Judging Team, and Samuel Cottrell held the leading score of 430 for the Horticulture Team. This year's team members did a fantastic job practicing and preparing for the competition months in advance. Congratulations to this year's Eureka FFA Livestock, Dairy, and Horticulture Judging Teams for their performances at the state level!

3rd Annual Career Week at EHS
The 3rd annual Career Week was April 11th-15th! Twenty-two professionals came to EHS throughout the week to speak to our students. An Emmy Award-Winning Animator, a Forensic Police Officer, a NFL Scout, an Early Childhood Educator, a Dog Trainer…just to name a few! This was a great week for the students and community alike to work together in finding the perfect jobs for tomorrow's leaders.

EHS students remember a friend and classmate
The Class of 2012 planted tulips in memory of Logan Sauder in October. The tulips bloomed this week. The following students helped plant the 105 tulip bulbs (one for each class member): Kurt Cottrell, David Crowe, Nikki Connolly, Jacey Hartman, Danielle Bill, and Lexi Bauman.
EHS hosts volunteer luncheon
Thanks to the social committee of Mrs. Brown, Mrs. Cook, Mrs. Schrepfer, Mrs. Rieke, and Mrs. Jackson for organizing this year's volunteer luncheon in the EHS library. Also, a big thanks to Todd Hohulin of 2Chez restaurant for catering the event, the volunteers for helping out throughout the year, and the students for acting as receptionists!
EHS WYSE team places in top 20 at state
The EHS WYSE team placed in the top twenty yesterday at the state competition. If they would count all of the scores recorded, we would have been 11th and in the top five of the public schools. Congratulations to Thompson Zhuang, who was a medalist in the area of Chemistry.

FFA Lock-in 2011
This year’s FFA Lock-In was a blast! The night started off with a team building activity in which the members present were split into groups, and each group duct taped one of the 5 girl officers to the wall. Laughter and smiles filled the room as the game started; the results were humorous to say the least. This event was the prelude to a night filled with never ending games of dodge ball and basketball, plus a bouncy and lot of scrumptious food! 75 Eureka FFA members of all ages came and enjoyed a time of fun, food, and lots of friends!

EHS students attending PAWAC conference
On March 26, 2011, the Peoria Area World Affairs Council (PAWAC) will be hosting their annual conference at the Par-A-Dice Hotel, in East Peoria. This year the conference is exploring the challenges and possibilities in Latin America. The following students were awarded scholarships to attend the conference from the Eureka Rotary and PAWAC: Brad Brewer, Christopher Crawford, David Crowe, Emily Cuffe, Jehanne Eveno, Erica Garber, José Hidrogo, and Chase Scherer. Thompson Zhuang was chosen for the PAWAC National Scholastic Bowl team and will travel with the team to Washington D.C. This is the first time an EHS student scored so high; this high score was why he was chosen to participate on the national team. EHS Social Science/Studies teacher, Deborah Bertschi, will be accompanying the students to the conference.

Poetry for the President contest winner
A big thanks to Ms. Blunier for her work with students on the Poetry for the President contest. She had 6 students complete and submit a poem on Ronald Reagan. Of the poems submitted, Nicole Connolly of Eureka, who is pictured with Ronda Cross - Regional Supt of Schools, was selected to represent the MPW Regional Office of Education in the Area II contest. She will be competing against 8 other high school students from northwest region of the state. Congratulations to Nicole and Ms Blunier!!!

Student Council attends convention
Eureka High School Student Council brought home many awards today from the Hopewell District Student Council Convention! First of all, Michelle Leman received a scholarship for college because of her leadership abilities. Ellen Wuethrich was awarded an Honor Council Award for her excellent work on the Student Council scrapbook! Ashley Schrock received the Zach Swingle award which is honoring a freshman or sophomore student that exemplifies integrity, positive and energetic leadership, devotion to family and friends, and academic achievement. For the first time since Mrs. Brown has been the advisor, there are two students being on the executive board- Quint Noe is 2011-2012 1st Vice President and Kyle Hinrichsen is the 2011-2012 2nd Vice PresidentJ The final recipient of an award was Stephanie Brown and she received the Advisor of the YearJ This year’s Student Council has been Taking Advantage of Tuesdays- each week Mrs. Brown gives the students a task for the week from donating old books and agreeing to not eat junk food to giving free hugs and writing letters to people in the military. This year has been an amazing year for Student Council- Our biggest event is yet to come….HOPE WEEK 2011 is April 4th-8th…please be on the lookout for events to come!

FFA Section 5 Meats Judging Contest
The Eureka FFA hosted the Section 5 Meats judging contest at Bitner’s Locker in Eureka on Thursday night, the 24th of February. The team consisted of Brad Krumholz (Jr.), Virginia Ely (Jr.), Josh Robinson (Soph.), Matt Grimm (Soph.), Evan Knapp (Soph.), Brett Boertline (Fresh.), Nathan Steffen (Fresh.), and Cody Jones (Fresh.). There were 5 teams total at the competition, and the Eureka team took 2nd with Brad Krumholz, Nathan Steffen, Cody Jones, and Virginia Ely in the top 10 scoring individuals section. A huge congratulation goes out to the team on their accomplishment at section, and good luck to them also for their upcoming district contest!

FFA Week at EHS
It’s National FFA Week! To help celebrate and kick things off, the Eureka High School FFA sponsored the Ag Olympics in the EHS gym on Tues. afternoon. The Ag Olympics consisted of an obstacle course filled with challenges such as a hay bail stacking competition, an egg toss, and a cow pie eating contest! The competitors were other student clubs at EHS. Student counsel won the competition by finishing the course with a time of 1:58, followed by the FFA with a close time of 2:04, and Operation Teen Safe Driving came in third with a time of 2:52. The competition was an awesome time for the clubs and students of EHS to come together and celebrate FFA Week. It was a great start to a week full of FFA spirit!

FFA Ski Trip 2011
On President’s Day the Eureka High School FFA took a charter bus up to Devil’s Head Wisconsin Ski Resort, for a day full of fun, friends, and snow! The trip was a great time of getting to know other members and enjoying the slopes. Add some hot chocolate to the mix and the trip was a success!

FFA Members Compete in Record Book Competition
This past Thursday, 19 Eureka High School FFA members took their Record Books to Princeville, IL, to have them judged at the section contest. FFA members that competed were as follows: Drew Bauman (Jr.), Matt Grimm (Soph.), Katherine Syndram (Jr.), Evan Zimmerman (Sr.), Brad Krumholz (Jr.), Samuel Cottrel (Jr.), Abbey Knapp (Soph.), Amber Leininger (Soph.), Ellynne Vance (Jr.), Dylan Woolen (Soph.), Tyler Bell (Soph.), Josh Robinson (Soph.), Rebecca Kuperschmid (Soph.), Jeremy Daugherty (Sr.), Gavin Arvin (Sr.), Seth Schumacher (Jr.), Jodi Blunier (Soph.), and Dan Leman (Sr.).
The National FFA Organization is made up of three critical areas: FFA, Lab/Classroom work, and Supervised Agricultural Experiences (this would include Record Books). Record books are a way for a high school FFA student to keep track of their financial standings during their high school career. There are two different types of Record Books, Entrepreneurship, in which the student starts their own business (i.e. A mowing company or a beef production operation), or placement, in which the student works for a specific company.
At the section contest students are individually interviewed by a panel of judges about their Record Book, and what it entailed. Dylan Woolen, Josh Robinson, Rebecca Kuperschmid, Dan Leman, Drew Bauman, Katherine Syndram, and Samuel Cottrel won their proficiency area and will be competing at the district competition on March 16th, in Geneseo, IL.

Local Eureka FFA Chapter Attends 212 Conference
Members of the Eureka High School FFA Chapter attended the National FFA Organization’s 212 conference at the Chicago Marriot in Schaumburg, Illinois on January 28-29, 2011. Members in attendance, pictured from left to right (below), are State FFA President John Edgar, Brook Leininger, Kyle Zimmerman, Austin Blunier, Sarah Kupferschmid, Landon Dietrich, and Logan Dietrich of Eureka.
The two-day personal development program helped students determine personal virtues and values, while creating personal action plans for achieving their goals. The conference also focused on good decision making and accountability.
Illinois held two 212 conferences with 341 FFA members attending the conference in Schaumburg and another 256 attending the conference held in Collinsville. The conference was open to freshman and sophomore FFA members.
212 conference program staff members are college students who are former state or national FFA officers. FFA is a national organization, of over 523,000 members, developing each student’s potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education. Local, state, and national activities and award programs provide opportunities for students to apply knowledge and skills acquired through agricultural education.

IMEA All-State Conference
Congratulations to Evan Stalter (12), Dustin Smith (12), and Kelsey Henry (11) who participated in the annual IMEA All-State Conference. After rigorous preparation and auditions, the three were selected to attend the three day festival in Peoria from Thursday-Saturday January 27-29. Evan represented EHS in the All-State band playing euphonium. Dustin sang Tenor 2 in the All-State Chorus and Kelsey had the opportunity to be an Alto 2 in the Honors Chorus. In addition to singing and playing under the direction of extremely talented and well-known directors, composers, and arrangers, the three EHS students each participated in the All-State Conference Concerts on Saturday in the Peoria Civic Center Arena. Band director Todd Stalter and choir director Kate O'Donnell were able to attend many helpful workshops and clinics while in Peoria, and are very proud of their students' accomplishments!
